Macrame 101: How to tie a Double Half Hitch Knot horizontally and diagonally.
Look at any macrame wall hanging and you will most definitely find a Double Half Hitch Knot in there somewhere. It is one of the most popular knots and can be tied in all directions.
In this blog post I will be showing you how to tie the Double Half Hitch Knot horizontally and diagonally.
Let's start with the Horizontal Double Half Hitch Knot.
(Cotton string used in this tutorial is the 5mm Single Twist Cotton String in Natural and Sage).
1. Start with the Lark's Head Knot. I have used a Sage green string to make it easier to see how the knot is tied.
2. Bring one string across the strings to the right in the direction you want to knot in.
3. With the first warp string, wrap it under, over and back under and then pull it tight to where you want the knot to be. Do the same with the second warp string and pull it tight. That is your Horizontal Double Warp Knot!
4. Do the same along each string until you have a line of knots that look like the above.
Diagonal Double Half Hitch Knot
1. To tie a Diagonal Half Hitch Knot all you have to do is repeat the steps above for the Horizontal Double Half Hitch Knot, but the leading string should point downwards on the diagonal and then knots along following it's course. See step by step photos below.
